Why Monitoring your Blood Pressure is so Important

December 15, 2021

Blood pressure is literally the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries that carry blood from the heart to other parts of the body. If that pressure is too high, it opens the door to a host of physical conditions that can be potentially life threatening.

At Green Pharmacy, our entire team is committed to your good health.  We invite you to come in for regular blood pressure monitoring, and to talk to our knowledgeable staff about what your numbers mean and what your potential risks are. We’ll also provide you with valuable information to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Flagging a potential blood pressure problem early empowers you to be more proactive, make the necessary changes to lower blood pressure through lifestyle changes, such as losing weight, stopping smoking, and reducing stress. The goal is to treat the problem while it is most treatable, and before other potential complications arise.

Blood pressure readings are expressed as a pair of numbers: the top number measures systolic pressure, the amount of pressure in the arteries during contraction of the heart muscle; the bottom number measures diastolic pressure, when the heart muscle is relaxing between beats. Normal blood pressure for a healthy adult is 120/80 or less. The higher the numbers, the greater the risk of complications, including heart attacks, stroke, and kidney failure.
